Eustoma exaltatum

Beach or seaside gentian, Catchfly prairie gentian

Eustoma exaltatum, or Beach gentian, grows everywhere from coastal dunes to midwest prairies. Accordingly, its common names include Catchfly prairie gentian and a variety called Showy prairie gentian.

E. exaltatum‘s lavender flowers have dark purple throats and bright yellow stamen. When fully in bloom, the petals curl outward in the shape of a bell. Its leaves are long and pointed.
