Sabatia arenicola

Sand rose gentian, Salt marsh pink

The flowers of S. arenicola are sometimes white.
Sabatia arenicola, or Sand rose gentian, typically has small pink or white flowers with five evenly spaced petals that broaden from the base. In the more common pink flower, bright yellow patches at the bottom of each petal form a central pentagon. S. arenicola is a succulent with flattened paddle leaves directly attached to stems that often branch from a common base. The annual herb is limited to Texas and Louisiana but is common in sandy soils and throughout the state’s dunes and beaches.
