Mimosa strigilossa

Sunshine mimosa or Powderpuff

Mimosa strigilossa, or Powderpuff, blooms in an unmistakeable spherical ball of pink filaments with yellow caps. Its rows of oblong leaves are typical of mimosas and often fold quickly when touched or in the heat of the day.

The plant is common to sandy soils, from the beach to grasslands to the forest edge. It is native along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida.

The plant is similar to M. microphylla, or Little leaf sensitive briar, which has more delicate leaves.
