Scutellaria integrifolia

Helmut flower or Helmut skullcap

S. integrifolia, or Helmut flower, is native to the eastern and southeastern United States, including Texas. While common along the Gulf Coast, it is considered endangered in Connecticut and New York.

The plant has narrow leaves and terminal clusters of long, blue to lavender to pink flowers. It is commonly found in meadows adjacent to coast dunes and forest edges.

S. integrifolia is part of the mint family and, similar to many other plants that thrive in sandy soils, appears to benefit from association with mycorrhizal fungi.
